Effie Awards Announces Grand Effie Jury Members and Top Winners for Ideas That Work
New York (April 16, 2007) — Mary Lee Keane, Executive Director of the Effie Awards, announced today that John Butler, Co-Creative Director of Butler Shine Stern & Partners will serve as the 2007 Grand Effie Jury Chair. The Effie Awards honor the most significant achievement in marketing communications: effectiveness.
The Effie Awards also named the agencies with largest number of Effie wins, as well as the most effective Media agencies of 2007. Select category winners including Global, Hispanic, African-American, and David vs. Goliath (one of Effie’s newest categories), are detailed below. Gold, Silver and Bronze Effie trophy levels, as well as the Grand Effie winner will be revealed and awarded at the 39th annual Effie gala, which will be held on June 7 in New York.
The Grand Effie Jury determines the Grand Effie winner from a select number of the highest-scoring campaigns on the day of the gala. Last year’s Grand Effie winner was Ogilvy & Mather’s campaign, ‘The Campaign for Real Beauty?’ for Dove.

Highlights: 2007 Effie Winners
Agencies with the most Effie wins this year include Leo Burnett with 11 wins, JWT with 9 wins and DDB with 6 wins.
Most Effective Media Agencies
OMD (10 wins), Starcom MediaVest (10 wins) and MindShare (8 wins) were the three most effective media agencies of 2007.
In the Media Idea category, the Schupp Company was recognized for its KTRS/ St. Louis Cardinals ‘Missing Birds?’ campaign, while DDB Seattle earned an Effie for its ’We’re Up When You’re Up?’ campaign for McDonald’s. In addition, The Martin Agency’s ‘Life Lessons?’ campaign for TLC won an Effie in the Media Companies category.
Hispanic Category Winners
In the Hispanic category, Conill Advertising won an Effie on behalf of Toyota, Dieste Harmel & Partners won an Effie on behalf of Clorox, Grupo Gallegos for the California Milk Processor Board and Leo Burnett USA for McDonald’s.
African-American Category Winners
The following agencies won Effies in the African- American category: Burrell for Allstate, E. Morris Communications, Inc. for Tyson Foods, The TRUE Agency, for Infiniti and Wieden+Kennedy New York for Nike’s Jordan Brand.
David vs. Goliath Winners
The Effies introduced the category, David vs. Goliath to reward ‘small challenger brands who take on the big guy…and succeed?’.
The first winners in the David vs. Goliath category include Colle + McVoy for the ’Schell’s Dark. A Beer Facing Extinction?’ campaign on behalf of Schell’s Dark Beer and JWT-Atlanta for the ‘Tobu?’ campaign on behalf of Bridgestone Golf.
Global Effie Winners
To be eligible to enter the Global EFFIEs, a campaign must have run in four or more countries worldwide and two or more regions of the world. This year’s Global Effie winners include Amsterdam’s cayenne communications for the BV Canon EOS 350D Digital SLR Camera ’It’s Playtime?’ campaign and JWT London for the Kraft Philadelphia Cream Cheese ‘Philadelphia – A Little Taste of Heaven?’ campaign.
This year’s winners will be the first recipients of the new Effie trophy, a contemporary 3-dimensional version of the signature Effie ‘E.?’ The 39th annual Effie Awards Gala will be held at the Metropolitan Pavilion in New York.
