Effie Awards to Honor Eco-Marketing Ideas That Work:
Introducing The Green Effie
Call For Entries Open In January for Effie’s Newest Specialty Category
December 12, 2007 (New York) The Effie Awards announced today the inception of the Green Effie Award, which honors effective eco-marketing campaigns. The Green Effie Award is sponsored by Discovery Communications’ network, Planet Green. The Effie Awards, coveted by clients and agencies alike, recognize the most significant achievement in marketing communications: effectiveness.
The Green Effie will reward marketing communications efforts for eco issues (including sustainability, healthy lifestyle, energy conservation, Green products or services, Green business alignment, etc.) Any case in which the core communications idea is centered on an eco issue is eligible to enter. As with all Effie entries, Green Effie entrants will have to back up claims that they made an impact, inspired action, and made a difference.
‘In the 40 years that the Effies have been awarded, we introduce categories that reflect business and economic trends,?’ said Mary Lee Keane, Executive Director of the Effie Awards. ‘Effie stands for effectiveness and our guidelines for the Green Effie will be just as rigorous as our other categories. Eco Marketers will have to back up claims that they are making a difference.?’
The Green Effies Call for Entries period begins January 3, with an entry deadline of February 15. Gold, Silver and Bronze Effies will be awarded to eco-marketing campaigns that utilize any form of consumer engagement (from TV to package design to events to PR) to deliver their marketing mission. Awards will be presented at the 40th Annual Effie Gala on June 4 at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York.
Keane added, ‘As more and more companies are incorporating Green themes into their marketing messages, Effie’s criteria for ideas that work will single out the brands that are truly striving to make our planet a better place to live.?’
