Sunoco had built its brand around automotive racing. With the once-popular sport in decline, we had to lure a new generation of drivers and stop talking about what fuels race cars and start talking about what fuels their lives. The comedic Fuel Your Best campaign and revamped media strategy achieved category-beating persuasion norms among the new target, increased unaided awareness +37% in key markets, and not only reversed sales decline, but drove its two record-highest sales quarters, ever.
